How TiO2 Works

TiO2 offers a promising approach for the remediation of air quality through its photo catalytic action that oxidizes unhealthy contaminants. By definition, a photo catalyst is a catalyst that accelerates photoreaction.

When a photo catalyst is exposed to light in the presence of water vapor, two highly reactive substances are formed: hydroxyl radicals [OH] and a super oxide anion [O 2 -1]. It allows the oxidation of airborne VOCs (volatile organic compounds such as formaldehyde) and toxic organic matter into carbon dioxide and water at room temperature with an ultra violet or near ultra violet light source.

It does not need special energy and uses only clean energy; sunlight or lamp light generated in daily life. Specific titanium dioxide has a strong photo catalyst reaction, strong oxidation and decomposition strength.

Eventually, the air in any given room will come into contact with the walls. Once that air comes in contact with the TiO2 treated wall, air borne particles such as mold, viruses, bacteria and VOCs are decomposed.

Photo catalyst has the following advantages over any current air purification technologies:

Is TiO2 Safe?

Titanium dioxide, also known as Titania, is the naturally occurring oxide of titanium, chemical formula TiO2. Approved by the food testing laboratory of the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Titanium Dioxide is considered a safe substance and harmless to humans.

TiO2 is commonly used in paint, printing ink, plastics, paper, synthetic fibers, crayons and ceramics along with food and cosmetics. Many studies have been published on the use of titanium dioxide as a photo catalyst for the decomposition of organic compounds. After illuminated by light, titanium dioxide produces hydroxyl radicals, which react with the organic matters in the air to form non-toxic inorganic matters.

How TiO2 is Applied?

TiO2 is an odorless nearly clear liquid. It is applied to your walls with a sprayer. TiO2 will not change the color of your paint or wall paper and dries quickly. It is applied in multiple layers to insure proper buildup of the coating.

What Will TiO2 Do?

TiO2 will actually eliminate odor, eliminate bacteria, virus and other organic materials that come in contact with the activated (by light) surface. Volatile Organic Compounds or VOCs, very commonly found in homes, vehicles and the air we breathe, will be decomposed as well.

How Long will TiO2 Last?

TiO2 will last indefinitely as long as the treated area can receive light. Therefore, any home treated with TiO2 will enjoy its oxidizing powers as long as it is not covered by paint or chipped off the surface.

Does my Entire Home Need to be Treated?

You may choose to treat every wall in your home or just specific rooms. We recommend the application in bed rooms especially as that is where we lay breathing for several hours at a time.
